Lap - Band Adjustable Gastric Banding

The LAP-BAND is designed to induce weight loss by restricting food consumption.  An adjustable elastic band is placed around the upper stomach separating the upper portion, the pouch, from the lower portion. The two portions continue to connect with each other through an outlet. The outlet size can be adjusted by injecting saline into a small reservoir that is inserted under the skin during the surgery.  The reservoir is connected to the elastic band via tubing. The pouch fills quickly with solid food creating feeling of fullness.  Overeating results in pain or vomiting that is meant to discourage further food intake.
